I QUIT SMOKING

I know, I know... I had a previous blog about quiting already and the worst part about that time, not only did I start smoking again but I also broke a promise to someone I respect. Kicking the habit is not a easy task nor is it pretty.

I have been smoking for 14 years and have tried several methods the patch, gum, candy and I even tried acupuncture (that was awesome, I fell asleep with needles in my ear. When I tried to turn my head, while asleep, the pain of the needle going in deeper into my ear startled me). Out of all these methods only one method worked the best, "the promise" method. It is when you promise someone dear to you and respect, that you will never smoke again. The two times I used this method, the first attempted lasted a year and I asked permission to break the promise, the second time only lasted 4 months and I just "douched" out. The promise method is great, it is your word vs the nicotine. It a serious commitment to someone, it's biggest flaw is your action is based on guilt and not on self strength. It works on the fear and the consequence of breaking a promise, what a horrible reason to do anything. It has only been a month but I am trying a "New and Improved Promise Method" and it goes a little something like this:

"I promise myself to quit smoking in order to better my way of living and to enjoy a healthy and happy life."

This method is all me and no one else. If i don't take care of myself who will. It is a simple realization but sometimes these simple things are the hardest to remember. I'm taking this promise one day at a time, I'm measuring my success one minute to the other and this minute is good so far. I'll blog the progress once in a blue. :)

In the beginning of my 6 month sabbatical, I started up Everywhereproject.com to keep my family and friends as part of the experience. The project is to see every thing, go every where, to learn as much as I can and to try my best to share the experience with everyone in my life during the 6 month hiatus. It sounds easy but trust me, it wasn't. The months came and went. What was supposed to be a 6 month project has now become more of a way of life. I realized that life just became better through the project. Hope you guys enjoy the way I see the world and thank you.

My name is Martin Luther Banez Bunyi and this is my project.
